Mac Explorer is a native Swift and AppKit file manager for macOS 14 or later, with support for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. It is designed for people who prefer Windows Explorer-style file interactions and for developers who want everyday tools close to their files.
Enter opens a selected item, F2 renames it, and Delete moves it to the system Trash. An editable address bar, mouse Back and Forward navigation, New File, and cut-and-paste support familiar workflows. Users can switch between icons and a detailed list, preview files with Quick Look, and inspect technical metadata such as MIME type, permissions, ownership and dates.
A terminal opens in the current folder. Git information, regular-expression filtering and configurable context-menu actions help with development tasks. The My Computer start screen brings together favorites, drives, available space and recent files. File operations include undo and redo.
The interface uses one file pane and does not offer tabs or a dual-pane layout. Name and regular-expression filters operate in the current directory rather than providing a separate whole-disk search index. Optional cloud connections require explicit setup. This focused approach suits users seeking familiar file navigation with integrated developer tools, rather than a Commander-style interface.
